Let the season begin!

This year I have decided to keep a blog of my training for the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge. So many of you that have supported my efforts in raising money for cancer research over the last 17 years have asked me about what it is like to be a part of a team for so long and also what it is like to train for a marathon during the winter months. Well here it is the night before my first official training run for Boston 2016. I have been doing long runs throughout the summer since I trained (I use that word lightly) for the VT 50 which entailed a 32 mile train run and also most recently a half marathon for Children's Hospital at Dartmouth as part of Team Nolan. Event though I have been running there is something that is always extra special about a new training year for Boston. The excitement really has nothing to do with the marathon itself although that is extraordinary. After running with my DF family all these years and logging thousands of miles with them I always feel like the world is right again when we are back together. I know these early months of training will be getting me ready for bi-monthly runs with the team in Boston. A lot of people think being on this team is a "ticket" to the Boston Marathon. It is anything but. The DF team is a family! It is a family of friends, staff, patient partners and in-memory partners who have one thing in common. We all want a cure for cancer. So on the night before my first training run I am looking forward to being back out there embarking on a new season on the DFMC team and chasing down my sub4 hour marathon.
